The Lasting Legacy Of Martin Luther King, Jr. Displayed In One Little Boy

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy can easily been seen in changes of attitudes towards race in the United States since the decades following the peak of the civil rights movement.

From the calls to end apartheid in South Africa, to establishing voters’ rights amongst African Americans, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy as a peace activist is forever cemented along with those that came before him, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln.

One Facebook post firmly displays the lasting legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. despite his death almost a half century ago.

Cindy Tow revealed that her son had something to tell her but even she could not imagine what would have transpired. Her son confessed that he felt a “little weird” about a perfectly natural emotion.

Cindy Tow

“Mom, can I tell you something weird?”

Me: Sure.

“I really can’t wait for Martin Luther King Day.”

Me: That’s not weird, it sounds like you’re really inspired by him.

“Yeah, because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be able to play with my friend.”

Her son’s response shows the innocence of children and the social construct of race.

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
