David Furnish Offers A Semi-Apology To Madonna Over “Narcissist” Comment

David Furnish and Elton John Vs MadonnaAll Posts

David Furnish, husband of Elton John attacked Madonna after her song “Masterpiece” won best song in a motion picture this past weekend at the Golden Globes.

In his attack he said of her victory:

“Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”

Now after a cool down period Furnish has issued a halfhearted apology in which he wrote on his Facebook page:

“Wow!  What a tempest in a teapot.  My passion for our film ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ and belief in Elton’s song really got my emotional juices going.”

David Furnish then added:

“But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week’s premiere of the film ‘W.E.’”

It’s a back handed compliment rolled into a bit of praise for his husband while offering amends, pretty much exactly what I would expected from David Furnish.

For her part Madonna never really seemed to care for an apology and after Elton John himself attacked her Madonna revealed:

“He’s been known to get mad at me so I don’t know,” she continued. “He’s brilliant and I adore him so he’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad!”

Do you think David Furnish made a silly comment after the Golden Globes that shouldn’t have been made in the first place?

I think David did what any good spouse would do, he fiercely defended his husband. That gives me so much respect for David. I don't think he needed to apologize at all. Having said that, I think the feud between Elton and Madonna is silly. They are both immensely talented artists who have paved the way for others. They are both brilliant, hard working artists who got to the top with raw talent, sheer determination and chutzpah. I have to respect them for that.
