Bruce Jenner Blames Fatal Car Crash On Driver Who Was Killed

Bruce Jenner told law enforcement there was no way he could have avoided the fatal car crash he was involved in last weekend, says the Lexus driver slammed on her brakes in front of him without warning.

Jenner could not tell cops whether the Lexus struck the Prius before his Cadillac Escalade struck the car because things happened so quickly. According to TMZ, law enforcement officials have said the Lexus left no skid marks, but that is not an indication she did not slam on her brakes suddenly as Jenner maintains. Bruce’s SUV did not leave skid marks either, only his trailer. Anti-lock devices may have prevented the vehicles from skidding.

Jenner’s dark blue Escalade smashed into the rear end of the white Lexus in Malibu last Saturday. After being struck, the Lexus spun into oncoming traffic and was hit head-on by an oncoming Hummer. The driver, 69-year-old Kim Howe of Calabasas, died at the scene. ABC7 in Los Angeles reports the victim of the fatal crash was driving with an invalid driver’s license. Howe’s license expired in 2007, according to DMV records.

As TMZ reports, whether the Howe slammed on the brakes abruptly, drivers are supposed to leave enough space in front of them to prevent this type of accident. Law enforcement officials believe Jenner was following too closely. While the investigation is still ongoing, cops are considering the scenario that the Lexus did not hit the Prius, but that Jenner did after pushing the Lexus into oncoming traffic. Sources tell NY Daily News that his Escalade left a partial imprint in the back of the black Prius driven by Hollywood talent agent Jessica Steindorff. An attorney for Steindorff tells Daily News that his client does not remember being struck twice, so it is possible Howe never struck her.

“Her recollection is that she was only struck one time with a very hard, long impact. She didn’t see it in her rearview mirror. She did not see who hit her.”

According to Page Six, cops are searching through Bruce Jenner’s cell phone records to determine whether he was texting or using his phone at the time of the crash.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star was seen less than 24 hours later in a gray and red Porsche going 56 in a 50 mph zone. On Tuesday, Jenner was spotted in Thousand Oaks, California, talking on a cell phone while driving.
