Man Marries Deceased Bride in Joint Wedding-Funeral Ceremony

Chadil Deffy married his girlfriend of 10-years earlier this week. Unfortunately, the bride wasn’t alive to see the ceremony. Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, married his longtime girlfriend Sarinya or Anne Kamsook, during a wedding / funeral in Thailand.

The Pattay Daily News reports that Deffy and Kamsook talked about marriage often throughout their ten year relationship but never got engaged. Deffy kept on putting off the wedding saying that he wanted to focus on his studies. When Kamsook died unexpectedly in an accident, Deffy felt like he hadn’t treated his girlfriend well enough in life and wanted to make it up to her.

So in front of friends and family, Deffy placed a ring on Kamsook’s dead finger and vowed to love her the rest of his life.

Onsiri Pravattiyagul, a friend of the groom, wrote a piece for the Bangkok Times, saying:

“Chadil wrote matter-of-factly online — and would later give interviews in the same vein — explaining that the motivation for this display was guilt, pure and simple: He felt he hadn’t done enough for his girlfriend of 10 years while she was alive. Before her sudden death in a road accident, she had suggested that he marry her. But he had demurred, putting the idea on hold…. The “wedding” was his attempt to right a wrong, however belated the gesture might have been.”

Here’s a video report about the wedding / funeral.

The couple fell in love while studying at Eastern Asia University more than ten years ago. They had talked about getting married but Kamsook died unexpectedly on January 3, 2012.

What do you think about Chadil Deffy’s marriage to the deceased Anne Kamsook? Is this creepy or sweet?
