PIPA Loses Four More Supporters in the Senate

The PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) is falling fast in the wake of a popular uprising against the awful bill. The vote for the bill was originally scheduled for the week but as of now that is not all that certain. The House and Senate scheduled the vote under the premise that this was going to be a rare win with bipartisan support. Lately the only thing bipartisan is the opposition to it.

Senator Marco Rubio, floated by many to be the Vice Presidential choice of Mitt Romney has decided he cannot support the bill any longer. He has taken a look and decided the consequences may be too much to bear.

Senator Roy Blunt, Senator from Missouri has decided to withdraw his support. Blunt is a co-sponsor of the bill (and has an awesome last name)

Senator John Boozman, Republican Senator from Arkansas has withdrawn his name from the list of co-sposors and says he will vote against the bill in its current form.

Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican from Utah. He decided to withdraw his support after putting the following statement on his Facebook page,

“After listening to the concerns on both sides of the debate over the PROTECT IP Act, it is simply not ready for prime time and both sides must continue working together to find a better path forward. Despite the concerns about the unintended consequences of this legislation, the Senate remains on a path to consider this bill next week. Rushing something with such potential for far-reaching consequences is something I cannot support and that’s why I will not only vote against moving the bill forward next week but also remove my cosponsorship of the bill.”

Let’s keep the opposition coming people, this one is too important to lose.
