Rihanna Is Headed For Number One With Kanye West Collaboration

Rihanna is about to score her 14th No. 1 single with “FourFiveSeconds,” her collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney. The song has been No. 1 on iTunes for the past two days and is receiving a lot of airplay. Rihanna opened the Grammy Awards with Kanye West and McCartney. Hollywood Life praised Rihanna‘s performance.

“Talk about a dream team! Kanye, Rihanna and Paul McCartney delivered an epic performance of their hot new hit ‘FourFiveSeconds’ at the 2015 Grammys. Rihanna, Kanye and Paul totally rocked the Staples Center! The unstoppable trio’s voices blended together in a surprisingly beautiful way when they joined forces to perform their upbeat new song.”

Twitter also reacted with excitement over the performance.

If Rihanna does score another No. 1 song, she’ll pull ahead of Madonna, who has a total of 13. It’s important to note that scoring No. 1 hits over the last decade has been far easier due to Billboard‘s updated chart methodology. Still, Rihanna will eventually surpass Mariah Carey’s record of having the most number one songs by a female artist.

The success of “FourFiveSeconds” is also a win for Kanye West, who was recently struggling with his own Paul McCartney collaboration “Only One.” That song has also earned a boost from West’s performance at the Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, West is suffering another major backlash from his comments about Beyoncé deserving to win the award for Album of the Year. The Huffington Post reports on Shirley Manson‘s comments to Kanye, which are echoed by many in the industry.

” ‘It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry,’ the Garbage singer wrote. ‘You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK. You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.’ “

It’s likely that the backlash surrounding Kanye West isn’t troubling Rihanna too much. After all, HNHH reports that West is the executive producer on Rihanna‘s new album.

“Ye and Ri’s most recent single is the first of what will be much more collaboration between the two artists on Rihanna’s new album, as Kanye has revealed he will be filling the executive producer role on the still-untitled project.”
