Lady Gaga Defends Beck After Kanye Post-Grammy Slam [Video]

Known for not only her theatrical and dramatic performances, but also her risk taking and original sense of fashion, Lady Gaga made Sunday night’s Grammy’s performance with Tony Bennett no exception. She owned the stage and the duo poured on the charm while singing “Cheek to Cheek.” As Rolling Stone commented that the two “looked like an elegant couple out on the town.”

The 28-year-old star also stepped up and defended “Album of the Year” recipient, Beck, after Kanye West slammed him for “not ‘respecting artistry’ and [suggesting] he give the award to Beyoncé,” as the Mirror U.K. relays. Gaga is the most recent member, of many, within the music industry to speak on the debate and to counter Kanye’s uncalled-for claims, by praising Beck for his efforts via social media.

“It is very strange to see people who don’t know BECK or don’t realize how important he is to music. He’s a musical genius, listen to him.”

Lady Gaga’s words of support for Beck and his talents are far more tame than previous artists’ responses to West’s outrageous remarks. Shirley Manson, a member of Garbage, ensured to attempt to get West’s attention by noting the hypocrisy of his charged comments on her Facebook page.

“You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.”

Westlife’s Brian McFadden joined Gaga and others in expressing his disgust with Kanye once again degrading the successes of yet another artist undeserving of such treatment and did not hold back when he tweeted: “If I was [B]eck, Kanye west would be getting surgery to have a Grammy removed from his a**.”

Although Gaga and numerous other artists have voiced their disapproval in West’s actions, the kicker is that Beck really didn’t seem to be bothered by the comments at all. As the Inquisitr noted, he responded graciously.

“I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right? I thought she was going to win. Come on she’s Beyoncé. You can’t please everybody, man. I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

Take a look at the Kanye rant that has got Lady Gaga and a plethora of additional members of the music industry speaking up for a true talents of Beck.
