Max Payne 3 delayed until May

Max Payne 3 has seen multiple delays since it was first announced, but with all of the media Rockstar has been releasing over the past several months it was starting to look like the game might actually come out on time. Unfortunately, it won’t.

Take-Two and Rockstar sent out a press release today announcing that Max Payne 3 has been pushed back until May 15 in North America for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Europe will get it just a couple of days later on May 18. A PC version is due for a May 29 release.

Max Payne 3 was to be the final title for the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year, which ends on March 31. Take-Two had hopes of wrapping up its fiscal year with $1 billion in revenue, but in light of the delay of Max Payne 3 the company has dropped their estimates by $210-230 million.

“We do not take changes to our release schedule lightly, and this short delay will ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality, groundbreaking entertainment experience that is expected from our Company,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two.

Max Payne 3 promises to be one of our most exciting releases to date, and we are confident that consumers will once again be amazed by Rockstar’s ability to take interactive entertainment to another level.”

On the bright side, at least Rockstar has given Max Payne 3 a firm release date along with the news. That’s got to be a good thing, right?
