Amal Clooney Birthday: Lawyer Has Intimate Dinner At Home With George To Celebrate Her 37th

Amal Clooney has never seemed to be a fan of the glamorous trimmings that come with marriage to a Hollywood actor. Amal remains serious when her work is in the public eye as demonstrated by a recent quip to a reporter that her judicial robes were her fashion statement. That seriousness might extend to family celebrations as People reports her 37th birthday was a quiet one, with Amal and George enjoying a night in with close friends.

Rande Gerber, husband to Cindy Crawford and long-time friend of George Clooney’s, revealed that George is “always doing special things” for Amal. He therefore declined to say what George might have gotten Amal for her birthday, although Gerber shed some light on the festivities.

“We just had a dinner with a small group of close friends at George’s house.”

Previously, Gerber had nothing but high praise for Amal and the match she was to be for his friend.

“She’s really perfect for him. She’s smart and she’s beautiful, engaging. She is, again… smart, but she doesn’t make you feel stupid! I’ve been friends with George probably half my life. And it’s just great that he found someone. She’s a great girl, and together I think they can do some incredible things.”

Gerber and Crawford attended Amal and George’s wedding, and the couples vacationed together over the December holidays. It is no surprise that the couple would be part of Amal’s birthday celebrations in Los Angeles.

The small affair is a far cry from George’s 53rd birthday last May when he and Amal had just confirmed their engagement. E! reported at the time that Clooney and then-Amal Alamuddin were off to Cabo San Lucas a full 10 days early for the wedding of Clooney’s friends Thom Mathews and Karla Jensen.

Days before George’s 50th birthday in 2011, he was seen at the celebrity hotspot Mr. Chow having dinner with then-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis. That was mere weeks before Canalis and Clooney called it off after a two-year courtship. Ironically, Canalis wed her new husband Brian Perri in September 2014, the same month George and Amal made it official. Canalis and Perri, like the Clooneys, married in Italy.

Amal Clooney is currently active in more than one high-profile legal case. She is representing Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights and, in a separate engagement, is legal counsel for jailed journalist Mohamed Fahmy.
