The Ongoing Question of The Whitney Houston Fortune: Who Will Inherit?

After the death of Whitney Houston in 2012, her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, inherited $20 million. Last week, 21-year-old Bobbi was found unconscious in the bathtub of her Georgia home, a scene that eerily mimicked that of her mother’s death.

In 2012, Whitney Houston herself was found unconscious in a bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel. The “I Will Always Love You” singer did not pull through. Bobbi Kristina was found by her self-proclaimed husband, Nick Gordon, who then called the police. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was later put into a medically induced coma.

Since Bobbi’s incident, the Houston and Brown families have provided very little information to the media. The first statement was given by Bobbi Kristina’s father, R&B singer Bobby Brown, and was a simple plea for “privacy.” Bobby Brown has been photographed many times going into Emory University Hospital with a saddened look. If his daughter does not become conscious soon, it’s been said that the family will take her off her life support. Once that happens, everyone is left with the question of where her millions will go.

Bobbi Kristina has, in the past, claimed to be married to Nick Gordon, Whitney Houston’s adopted son. It was a union that caused some issues within the Houston family, as seen on The Houstons: On Our Own, a reality show which aired on Lifetime Network from 2012-2013. However, according to Bobby Brown, the two were never married. Recently, Mr. Brown had his lawyer, Christopher Brown, make a public statement to the fact.

“To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon.”

According to Hollywood Life, Bobbi Kristina claimed to be married in 2014 on social media and even included a photo of she and Nick’s wedding bands. The couple lives together in Bobbi’s home near Atlanta. Family members have denied the marital union from the very beginning.

With no inside sources verifying the details of Whitney Houston’s will, it is unclear what will become of the fortune if Bobbi Kristina is taken off life support. It has been rumored that her grandmother, Cissy Houston, in second in line for the inheritance. No official statements have been made by family members about preparing for Bobbi’s death, as they are reportedly still holding on to hope and trying to discover what exactly happened to her. Christopher Brown recently made a statement regarding Bobbi Kristina’s accident.

“We are currently investigating the events that led to the hospitalization of Bobbi Kristina.”

So far, police have verified that there were no drugs in Bobbi’s home that could have caused her to lose consciousness and drown. The investigation is still ongoing.
