Jimmy Fallon Sings ‘Old Man’ With Neil Young On ‘Tonight Show’ — Must See Performance

Jimmy Fallon has impersonated Neil Young on his show countless of times in the past. Fallon, dressed as Neil Young, has jammed with Bruce Springsteen for a rendition of Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair.” He even joined Neil Young’s Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young bandmates for a rendition of Iggy Azalea’s hit song, “Fancy.” But while those performances were for comedic purposes, Jimmy Fallon did something special in a recent episode of his late night talk show.

Dressed in his Neil Young outfit, Jimmy Fallon started singing Young’s classic song, “Old Man”. He is then joined by the actual Neil Young, and any hint of comedy and irony was lost. What was left was a poignant performance of a poignant song.

Neil Young was also interviewed by Jimmy Fallon in the show. Young praised Fallon’s impersonation, which he has already seen before. “I saw you doing me before and I always thought it was fun,” Young said. Jimmy Fallon revealed that he was too shy to ask Neil Young to perform a duet when the singer appeared on his show the first time.

Young was there to promote his new high quality music player and download service, PONO. “You’re a music lover. You love music. That’s what PONO’s about,” Young said.

“Some people go, ‘Music is wallpaper. It’s background.’ Other people go, ‘I want to hear music. I love music. I want to turn it on and rock.'”

One thing they never talked about during the interview segment was Young’s opinion about the resurgence of vinyl records. Neil Young ruffled some feathers lately because of comments he made while promoting PONO.

In an interview with the Frame radio show, Young called the resurgence of vinyl as nothing more than a fashion statement. “A lot of people that buy vinyl today don’t realize that they’re listening to CD masters on vinyl and that’s because the record companies have figured out that people want vinyl,” Young said.

“And they’re only making CD masters in digital, so all the new products that come out on vinyl are actually CDs on vinyl, which is really nothing but a fashion statement.”

Aside from his performance with Jimmy Fallon, Neil Young also performed his song “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” accompanied by The Roots. The song is the lead single of Young’s latest record, Storytone.

Young’s recent appearance at The Tonight Show was a hit, and for good reason. His duet with Jimmy Fallon alone garnered tons of views.
