‘Dragon Age: Inquisition’ Update Applies Patch 3 and Patch 4 Across All Xbox, Playstation Platforms

After first becoming available to download on the PC version of Dragon Age: Inquisition last month, Bioware has finally released Patch 3 for the console editions of their most recent installment of the role-playing franchise. While it took weeks for the update to reach Xbox and Playstation users, the developer spent the time continuing to improve fans’ experience within Dragon Age: Inquisition by working on a subsequent title update at the same time. As such, Bioware’s Allan Schumacher announced on the studio’s official forums that both Patch 3 and Patch 4 are now ready to download on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, and Playstation 3.

The console version of Patch 3 for Dragon Age: Inquisition is identical to the similarly numbered update that was previously deployed on PC. The download applies numerous bug fixes to issues found within the game’s single player campaign as well as the newly introduced multiplayer mode. Additionally, the patch altered the way that in-game party banter works in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The developer noted that they reworked the frequency to make these random conversations happen more often. Bioware admitted to making the change based on player feedback after many fans voiced their displeasure regarding the state of party banter.

When Dragon Age: Inquisition‘s Patch 3 was launched on PC, the download also introduced a new issue that caused player-crafted shields to no longer provide players with an additional armor bonus. Addressing this issue, this week’s console update of the game also included the much smaller fourth patch that fixes the shield bug. Patch 4 also included tweaks to the game’s multiplayer mode to further reduce issues with problematic key drop rates.

While Patch 4 for Dragon Age: Inquisition is actually a smaller patch that feels more like a hotfix to the previous patch rather than an full update of its own, the developer decided to go ahead and release the new bug fixes as a fully numbered title update. In another post on the Bioware forums, Schumacher explained that the reasoning was simply to avoid confusion based on how the files are internally numbered.

I think there’s just something about needing to completely increment the number from a data stand point, so it’s easiest to simply say “it’s patch 4” rather than communicating that it’s “Patch 3 hotfix” while the patch data actually says “Patch 4.” It’d end up confusing because visible “Patch 4” would be tracked internally as “Patch 5” and guaranteed someone will make a mistake and get confused!

The official release of the third and fourth patch for Dragon Age: Inquisition comes just days after Bioware confirmed that the content had been submitted for certification testing, as reported earlier this week by Inquisitr.
