Mena Suvari Files for Divorce From Simone Sestito After 18 Months

American Beauty actress Mena Suvari has decided to end her 18 month long marriage to concert producer Simone Sestito. Suvari filed the papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the sole reason they can’t work it out.

Suvari also asked the court that he be given no spousal support and that she have her name changed back to Mena Suvari from Mena Suvari-Sestito.

The couple met in 2007 at the Toronto Film Festival while she was promoting one of her films. Less than a year later Simone and Suvari were engaged. They were married in Rome at the request of Sestito so they could be near his family.

A guest at the wedding told People magazine at the time that,

“The ceremony was truly unique. They are very much in love.”

In interviews given right after the wedding Suvari even told People Magazine she was planning on having children as soon as possible. She said,

“We are kind of building our lives together; we’ve been married a year now. He’s more in the music industry and he travels a lot as well but we’ve been able to travel together. Will we have kids? Yeah, one day, one day, hopefully.”

Suvari was married once before to Robert Brinkmann, they were divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage. This will be Suvari’s second divorce.

Suvari has had many leading roles portraying teenagers. She is best known for her roles as Heather in American Pie and for playing Angela in American Beauty. She is also a model for Lancome Cosmetics.
