‘iZombie’ Trailer: The Walking Dead Get Smarter And Cuter [Video]

The CW has released a new trailer for iZombie, and the supernatural comedy crime procedural does an excellent job giving The Walking Dead a fun new makeover — now zombies can talk, hold jobs, and look adorable.

According to Geeks of Doom, iZombie centers on Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver), a zombified medical resident who tries to hide the fact that she’s undead from her friends and family. If she always looked like she did at the end of the trailer below, this would be extremely difficult — no amount of makeup is going to hide those glowing red eyes rimmed with black.

Luckily, Liv can avoid going full zombie as long as she has a steady supply of brains to munch on. Feeding her craving for gray matter doesn’t make her look exactly like her old self, so she explains her pale skin and white hair as a severe style change. Her family and friends are baffled by her sudden decision to go goth, and they’re not afraid to let her know that they have a problem with her new look and personality.

iZombie star Rose McIver played Tinkerbell on Once Upon a Time, and it sounds like Liv’s pre-zombie personality was similar to that of the chipper fairy — once upon a time, she was a high-energy go-getter. However, being zombified has left Liv feeling exhausted, unhappy, and alone. Rose McIver talked about her character at Comic-Con International, and Comic Book Resources shared some of the actress’ thoughts about Liv’s personality.

“What was appealing about Liv is, she is cynical and jaded, and she’s lost her sense of identity, but within the first episode, although she can maintain some of that sarcasm and dark sense of humor, she starts to see a sense of purpose as well.”

McIver described Liv as “an ethical zombie” who is “a cross between Buffy and Angel.”

To feed her need for brains, Liv takes a job in the Seattle coroner’s office, and it’s here that she gets a new lease on life. She finds a friend in her brilliant new boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli). He has no problem with her zombie status, and he lets her munch on the cranial contents of murder victims. Liv soon discovers that she can “see” some of the memories contained in each brain that she consumes, and she starts using these memories to help homicide detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) solve murder cases. To hide her zombie status, she poses as a psychic.

Luckily, Liv only has to chow down on brains once a month to maintain her humanity. If she doesn’t eat enough, she falls back into “rabid zombie mode” with those red eyes and bulging veins. In the second iZombie trailer below, she finds a pretty palatable way to eat her work.

The iZombie cast is rounded out by Robert Buckley as Liv’s ex-fiancé, Major Lilywhite, and David Anders as Blaine DeBeers, an evil zombie who might be responsible for transforming Liv into one of the walking dead.

iZombie premieres March 17 on the CW. Will you be checking it out?
