NBA Feud Over 5-Year-Old Tweet: Cousins Calls Out Writer! [Video]

We’ve all been told “be careful what you put on the internet because it will never go away — it’s there forever.” Unfortunately for writer Clay Travis, that is true. Travis’ tweet from five years ago is coming back to bite him “you know where,” and most people think rightfully so.

According to Yardbarker, Travis, a writer for Fox Sports, decided to make a prediction about Demarcus Cousins five months prior to the Kings snatching him up with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft. On January 30, 2010, Travis took to Twitter and wanted his followers to take note that Cousins would be arrested within the next five years. Travis was so bold that he guaranteed his notion.

Guess what — five years came and went on January 30, 2015 and Cousins has yet to be arrested. Do you think Travis is having crow for dinner? It’s most certain that Cousins would be more than happy to serve it to him on a silver platter.

Just for old times sake, let’s take a walk down memory lane and revisit Clay Travis’ tweet from 2010. The direct quote from Twitter is, “There is a 100% chance that DeMarcus Cousins is arrested for something in the next five years. 100%. Write it in stone.”

Cousins took note of this prediction and it stuck with him so strongly all these years that he tucked it away, only to bring it back to the public eye on his own Twitter page on January 30, 2015 after taking a screenshot of it five years ago. Oops! Bet Travis didn’t see that coming!

Boogie, as Cousins is nicknamed, is wearing this tweet like a badge of honor.

This is not to say that Cousins has not seen his share of mayhem in the public eye, having intentionally punched OJ Mayo in the groin in December of 2010, as reported by Larry Brown Sports. This sparked a brawl between the two players, causing them both a technical foul.

And there was also the time Cousins blew up at referee Courtney Kirkland during the third quarter of a Houston Rockets-Sacramento Kings game, in which Cousins was called for a foul on Dwight Howard, as per Larry Brown Sports.

While these instances show that Cousins’ temper can get carried away, it is a far cry from being arrested. Kudos to Cousins for keeping himself out of an orange jumpsuit, and Travis — try to refrain from predicting the future on social media.
