‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Still Faces Criticism: ‘I Have Changed’

The original Teen Mom is set to come back to television next month with nearly the entire original cast, including Amber Portwood. The fifth season of the show will give fans their first in-depth look at Amber since her release from prison. While she filmed a special with MTV titled Being Amber, the one-hour show only gave fans a brief glimpse into Amber’s post-prison life. Now, she is speaking out about just how much she has changed.

Before going to prison, it was clear that Amber was on a dangerous downward spiral. Her tumultuous relationship with Gary Shirley played out on television, as did Amber’s frustration with him, which eventually led to an incident occurring on television. That incident directly caused Amber to be charged with domestic violence in 2010. That was only the start of her problems, though.

As pointed out by Us Weekly, after losing custody of her daughter to Shirley, things got worse for Amber, who was arrested for drug possession. After several tries at getting clean, Amber made the controversial decision to go to prison rather than enroll in a drug rehab program. Teen Mom was promptly cancelled following her decision. Although the decision took her away from her daughter and her family, the choice seemed to be the best decision for Amber, who is doing much better these days.

Unfortunately, despite doing so much to turn her life around, Amber Portwood still faces criticism for her past. While she acknowledges that she was in a bad place in her life when she went to prison, she also acknowledges that she has turned her life around. Of course, fans haven’t had a chance to see that just yet, but with the return of Teen Mom imminent, people will have the chance to see just how much Amber has changed.

Like other Teen Mom stars, Amber has released a memoir about her life, which has helped to give those who read it insight into the reality show star’s life. She joins Farrah Abraham, Kailyn Lowry, and Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra in releasing a book. Whether or not it has helped fans notice a difference in the Teen Mom star’s life is unclear.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Teen Mom will be back for its fifth season later this year. The initial air date was rumored to be February 2, but that date has been pushed back.
