Meghan Trainor Got Told ‘If You Lost Ten Pounds, You’d Be So Hot’

Meghan Trainor hasn’t always been about that bass. There was actually a time when she was completely against that bass and anything having to do with her body as she revealed to Reveal.

The “Lips Are Movin'” pop star spoke with the British magazine about body confidence, writing her body love anthem, and how she really felt about all of it.

Trainor admitted that she had never been confident about her body, especially when her best friend, whom she had a crush on, told “If you lost ten pounds, you’d be so hot.”

That began a period of Trainor’s life where, in her own words, the star was “addicted to diets.” Trainor even told her mom that she was “never eating again.” Well, of course she ate, but she tried some crazy fad diets along the way.

Trainor even went so far as the try the cayenne pepper detox diet. You remember the one, right? The 14-day detox where you just drink water with lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup? Thankfully, Trainor realized just how “gross” it was and “stopped straight away,” realizing that it was “not normal.”

Luckily, she did pick up a good tip from Beyonce. The 21-year-old Trainor says that when she met Beyonce, she was impressed with how Beyonce had a “healthy and curvy figure.” It helped give Trainor just a little more confidence than she had had before.

Trainor admits that her confidence was so low that although she wrote the curves-loving “All About That Bass,” it wasn’t how she really was feeling about herself.

Trainor says, “Even when I wrote that song, it was more about how I wished I felt, than how I actually felt at the time.”

It was after singing it and dancing to it and getting attention from others that Trainor says she finally “felt confident.”

So what would Trainor advise to help girls build confidence? When speaking with Glamour, Trainor said being loud and proud is what helps most.

You gotta speak it out loud. I’ll be like, ‘Oh my God, I look bomb in that picture! Yeah, I look amazing. My driver’s license? What a picture that is!'” says Trainor.

Even though she’s struggled for so many years and got those “if you lost ten pounds” comments, Trainor is helping fans to find their own confidence and appreciate all that bass.

When it comes to people hating on Trainor, claiming she’s against skinny girls, Trainor told Cosmopolitan that it’s simply not true. She added that if you listened to the rest of the lyrics, you’d hear her say that, “You think you’re fat, but I’m here to tell you that you’re perfect.”

Meghan Trainor is currently working with Clinique as their newest celebrity face and just released her first album titled Title.
