E! Plans Sit-Down With GLAAD To Discuss Bruce Jenner Docu-Series [Report]

The E! Network is reportedly planning a new docuseries that will follow Bruce Jenner’s “journey.” People reports that Jenner has been filmed for scenes that chronicle his life since his divorce from Kris Jenner, and crew have been told to “keep everything hush-hush.”

There is considerable speculation that Bruce Jenner is planning to publicly reveal he is transgender. Variety reported Wednesday that, in anticipation of a docuseries, the head of publicity at E! is planning to meet with representatives from GLAAD about how to handle the issue.

E! reps declined to comment to Variety.

Part of GLAAD’s mission statement reads: “GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBT equality. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.”

The organization recently spoke out about a photo-shopped magazine cover that purported to tell Bruce Jenner’s “story.” In a media release, GLAAD soundly objected to media treatment of the issue.

“This nonsense has to end. Speculating about a person’s gender identity only inflames the invasive and gross scrutiny that transgender people face every day at school, at work, or even when just walking down the street. It’s long past time that media outlets stop gossiping about Bruce Jenner’s gender.”

GLAAD also weighed in on tabloid speculation about Bruce Jenner a year ago by reprinting a piece written by Jezebel‘s Kat Callahan. GLAAD introduced the excerpt by summarizing that media reports about Jenner are “offensively framed.”

“It’s really quite appalling to have it framed as some horrible secret to be revealed, as if transition was an indiscretion, a bad habit, or a destructive decision. That’s not what transitioning is; transitioning is about healthy decision-making. It’s about following whatever steps one needs in order to be happier and well-adjusted.”

Jenner’s step-daughter Kim Kardashian recently discussed the rumors by saying she supports Bruce and will let him talk about his “journey” when he so chooses.

“[Bruce] is the happiest I’ve ever seen him… when the time is right, he’ll talk about whatever he wants to talk about. I will say that I think Bruce should tell his story his way. I think everyone goes through things in life, and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he’ll share whenever the time is right.”

The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that Jenner was spotted with Khloe Kardashian, Scott Disick, and a film crew in Pismo Beach, California. The Mail said the trio were riding dune buggies for the afternoon.
