WWE News: Is WWE Finished Numbering Their WrestleMania Pay-Per-Views?

This year’s WrestleMania is slightly different than in year’s past. It’s not as extravagant as not having a WrestleMania, but rather the branding of the entire operation. WWE decided to switch up the marketing plan for their biggest event of the year that may upset the hardcore-WWE fans in the WWE Universe.

Dave Meltzer, of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is reporting the true reason why WrestleMania 31 doesn’t have a number by it. It’s all due to the new branding scheme done by WWE for the next two WrestleMania events.

“WWE will no longer be numbering WrestleMania shows. Instead, symbols are being used for WrestleMania 31 and 32 branding. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the removal of numbers could be ‘because Vince thinks it makes it sound too old.’ ”

“The change means that WrestleMania 31 will become WrestleMania. To distinguish it, there’ll be a ‘play’ button in the Mania logo, which is meant to represent silicon valley. The show is, of course, airing just a short drive from Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium on March 29th.”

On top of WrestleMania 31 going without a number, WrestleMania 32 is going to be held in Dallas, Texas, on April 6, 2016. They already revealed the logo for the event and the “32” is nowhere to be seen. Instead, McMahon put a star in the logo to represent the “Lone Star State.”

McMahon has the right idea by trying to keep WrestleMania new and fresh, but the talent and storylines that are different will do that already. It’s not going to kill WrestleMania by any stretch of the imagination, but the traditionalists of WWE will have a problem with it. Don’t forget that most WWE fans will call it by the number regardless.

Moving on to WrestleMania 31, the card is rumored to be as follows.

  • Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar
  • Sting vs. Triple H
  • John Cena vs. Rusev
  • Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton
  • Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan

On last night’s special edition of Raw, it was announced that John Cena would face Rusev at WWE’s new pay-per-view, Fast Lane. Michael Cole even told the WWE fans that the matchup was pegged for WrestleMania 31, but they wanted to give the fans the match earlier. There’s still a chance we might get a rematch at the Grandaddy of Them All.

The Undertaker is rumored to be at WrestleMania 31, as well. Hopefully, he’s healthy enough to work with Bray Wyatt, which is the supposed-opponent he will face. WWE’s running with 61 days until WrestleMania and it will go without a number. What are your thoughts on the new branding strategy done by WWE?
