The master is back. Thierry Henry came off the bench last night against Leeds United to net Arsenal the winner, in a fairytale comeback that will have Gooners realising just what they’ve been missing. Henry, a man who seemed to thrive in the high-tempo, muscular Premier League, looked right at home and must be wishing he was playing longer than the two-month loan he’s currently on from the New York Red Bulls.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, Henry collected a pass from Alex Song and guided his shot past Leeds goalkeeper Andy Lonergan. It was vintage Henry, cool, composed and deadly. The young guys from Arsenal have a lot to learn from Henry and they should take this opportunity to do so.

Arsene Wenger had equally glowing words to say about the Arsenal legend: “”He was already a legend here but he added just a little bit more to the whole story with that goal. It was a little bit like a dream. It was a story you would tell young kids if you want to tell them a story about football.” Henry also mused: “I never thought I was going to play for Arsenal again or score a winner.” Gooners must be rubbing their eyes this morning. Is it really true?

Maybe even Thierry Henry himself has realised that his move to Spain wasn’t everything he’d hoped it would be. Or maybe he was just unlucky to have moved at a time when a certain Leo Messi was just getting going. Either way, his statue outside the Emirates Stadium is shining bright today.
