Mark Knopfler Streams New Song From Upcoming Album ‘Tracker’ [Video]

Fans of Mark Knopfler will be pleased to hear he is set to release his eighth solo album, Tracker, on March 16 through Universal Music. The album features 11 songs, and the guitar playing Knopfler is accompanied by Guy Fletcher on the keyboard, John McCusker on the fiddle, bass player Glenn Worf, and Ian Thomas on the drums.

Included above is the new track “Beryl,” which Mark is streaming as a preview to the album, which will be available March 16, 2015. The song is about Dame Beryl Margaret Bainbridge, an English writer from Liverpool in the U.K. who was primarily known for psychological fiction, usually set in the English working classes. She passed away in July 2010 and was posthumously awarded a special honor by the Booker Prize committee, hence Knopfler sings about it being all too late.

His signature guitar sound brings back many memories of past hits, whether in combination with his brother, David, and other band members in Dire Straits, or his other solo albums released since the band disbanded in 1995.

When asked why the album is titled Tracker, Mark Knopfler explained that the title came out of him trying to find his way over the decades.

“The album title arrived out of me trying to find my way over the decades. Out of me tracking time – looking at people, places and things from my past, and out of the process of tracking, as in recording tracks in the studio.”

According to Classic Rock, the new album is a follow up to Mark’s 2012 album Privateering. The new album was co-produced by Knopfler and Fletcher, and was recorded at the British Grove Studios in London. When released, Tracker will be available on CD as well as on double vinyl and deluxe CD, with the latter offering four bonus tracks.

There will also be a four-disc box set version, including the new album on CD and vinyl, as well as the bonus tracks and a short film directed by Henrik Hansen, along with an art print and six photos. According to Knopfler’s Twitter feed, the new album is available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon right now.

For those living in the United Kingdom, six new shows are to be held during May this year, which can be booked via Mark Knopfler’s official website. Fans living in the U.S., fear not, as there is mention on the website of an upcoming North American tour, to be announced shortly.

Speaking of other classic musical artists, the Inquisitr recently reported that Bob Dylan is currently doing it his way by releasing an album of Frank Sinatra cover songs. Dylan had been thinking about doing this for a while and now is apparently the time.

Getting back to Mark Knopfler, what do you think of the track from his new album, included above? Will you be buying the CD?
