Kanye West (Finally) Reveals Why He Doesn’t Smile In Photos
Kanye West isn’t always miserable, after all! In a recent interview, the rapper explained why he doesn’t smile in pictures, and his response might actually surprise you. According to Gossip Cop, West attended the Fashion Los Angeles Awards, where he revealed his reasons behind not smiling… and he says that it’s “cool” not to smile, so that’s why he refrains from doing so. You know. Because he’s cool.
“Back when I was working on ‘Yeezus,’ I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything. I looked at all these people’s photos, and they look so real and their outfits were incredible and they weren’t smiling. People, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, not smiling makes me smile. When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling because it just wouldn’t look as cool.”
Kanye West rarely shows his teeth in pictures, and many previously thought it was just because he was pompous, and perhaps some will still think that’s part of it. Naturally, when a person doesn’t smile, they look unhappy, and Kanye hasn’t looked very happy in many photos that he has taken over the years.
The Huffington Post posted a fine example of Kanye with a smile, and without a smile. And while he thinks the picture without a smile is cool, other people don’t necessarily agree.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Kanye is supporting Kim’s decision to go public with the couple’s private life when it comes to this topic. Kim wanted to share her experience because she knows that so many women can relate. Since Kim’s career relies on her being relevant and relatable, her decision to be open about her pregnancy struggles isn’t surprising at all.
“It’s been more challenging to get pregnant the second time around. When you’re not planning it, it happens. It’s just how God works. And when you want it so bad, it’s not happening,” Kim said.
