Club Nintendo Closing In June For New Nintendo Loyalty Program

Nintendo has announced that its loyalty program “Club Nintendo” will be closing in June of 2015 to make way for a new Nintendo loyalty program. The program which launched a little more than six years ago in North America allowed owners of Nintendo hardware and software to register their merchandise online at the Club Nintendo website and be eligible for various discounts, downloads and merchandise redemptions for their loyalty.

Announcing the closure of Club Nintendo brings an end to the redemption of the coins many gamers have used to download games such as Super Mario 3DS as the Inquisitr has covered previously. By visiting the official Club Nintendo site, gamers can redeem the PIN numbers that come with their purchased games with the loyalty club from Nintendo. The PIN cards are either on a small red card or on the back of the box art which requires the owner to remove it from the case. These codes will not work with the new loyalty program which has yet to be detailed by Nintendo.

The details from Nintendo show the roadmap over the next several months,

  • 1/20/2015 Products released after this date are not eligible for registration with Club Nintendo.
  • 3/31/2015 Last day to earn Coins, register products with Club Nintendo, and sign up for new Club Nintendo membership.
  • 6/30/2015 Last day to redeem Coins or access your account on the Club Nintendo website. Club Nintendo program shuts down at 11:59pm PT on 6/30/2015.

Gamers who have coins left after the Club Nintendo closing, will not see them transferred to the new loyalty program which has not yet been detailed by Nintendo as of this writing. Gamers who are still hoping to reach the Elite Status in time for the April 2015 window still have time, but will have to either take the time to sit down and register their backlog of games from the Wii U and 3DS or purchase new games that were released before January 20, 2015.

Those who are curious on how to read Elite Status before Club Nintendo closes, you must earn 300 Coins (for Gold Status) or 600 Coins (for Platinum Status) between July 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. Members who reach Elite Status will be able to choose a downloadable game from a selection of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles. The free Elite Status gift will be available between April 1 and April 30, 2015 and posted here.

EGM pointed out that Nintendo is planning to add several items to the physical reward options for members in February as well as Flipnote Studio 3D. A complete list of what games are currently on offer can be visited in the link above to the Elite status reward page. If you have any games that you have been sitting on, make sure you register them before June 31 as all accounts, coins and rewards will be gone on the morning of July 1, 2015.
