Anthony Mackie Talks Up ‘Captain America 3’ As ‘Avengers 3.8’ And Reveals If Falcon Becomes The Captain

The new Captain America film, Captain America: Civil War, has been the spark of much debate among superhero fans. While some people are concerned about how long Chris Evans will be playing Captain America, others are concerned about the quality of the third film in the series. Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in the Captain America films, has spoken out about Civil War promising the best Marvel film yet and has even revealed some plot details about who could be wielding the captain’s shield in future movies.

In an interview with Windy City Live, Mackie confirmed that Captain America will, indeed, pass off the indestructible shield to Falcon — after first trying to give it to his old friend Bucky.

“Well, you know there are many incarnations in the comic book, and we are now going into the Civil War,” Anthony Mackie said, explaining that Captain America tries to give his shield to Bucky. “Then Bucky goes off and marries Black Widow, so I keep the shield, give it back to Cap, and recently Cap wanted to be old, so he gave me the shield back and now I got the shield; I’m not giving it back.”

While Mackie played a minor role Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he is expected to contribute much more to subsequent Captain America movies. In a recent interview with Fox, Mackie spoke about the experience playing Falcon in the Captain America franchise, claiming that he’s lucky that the Captain America films are so good.

“It’s so amazing to be a part of the Marvel universe,” said Mackie. “It’s so rare that you go into a movie, and you know the movie is gonna be good. And Marvel does not settle for mediocre on any of their movies. And that is what’s so great. You can go as far as you want because you know they are going to make it look good.”

In fact, Anthony Mackie is so confident in the quality of the Captain America movies that he has described them as better versions of the Avengers films, which so far have been widely praised and hotly anticipated. Mackie hyped up Captain America: Civil War quite a lot, according to Perez Hilton, boasting that it will be everything the fans wanted.

“I will tell you this – Cap 3 is gonna be everything you can imagine. Cap 2 was really Avengers 1.5, and Cap 3 is gonna be Avengers 3.8.”
