Playstation Network’s Top-selling Games Of 2014 include ‘GTA V,’ ‘Minecraft,’ and ‘Destiny’

Now that a new year has begun, Sony has taken a moment to look back at 2014 to show off what games were the best-selling digital titles sold on the Playstation Store over the past 12 months. The official Playstation Blog has now revealed the top ten sales charts of total Playstation Network purchases for the entire year of 2014 across all of Sony’s current gaming platforms.

Taking the top honor of the year on the Playstation 4 was Bungie’s new online-multiplayer shooter, Destiny. The game managed to earn more digital sales over the Playstation Network than any other PS4 title. Destiny‘s expansion pass, which gives fans access to both The Dark Below and the title’s upcoming second expansion, was also the Playstation Network’s top-sold DLC add-on during the previous calendar year.

For the Playstation 3, the game that earned the most sales over the Playstation Network in 2014 was 4J Studios’ console port of Minecraft. While a big-budget title like Destiny claimed the number one slot on Sony’s new-gen platform, the PS3 winner came from a decidedly smaller team that had nowhere near the marketing power that supported larger games like Bungie’s recent shooter.

Grand Theft Auto V also performed well on multiple Sony platforms in 2014 after becoming the Playstation Network’s second top-selling title on both the Playstation 4 and Playstation 3. The Rockstar Games title actually managed to beat out Activision’s insanely popular Call of Duty franchise on both consoles after Advanced Warfare trailed just behind GTA V to become the third top game on 2014’s Playstation Network Sales charts for each system.

In an odd twist, Destiny and Minecraft switched places with one another on the individual Playstation Network sales charts for the PS3 and PS4. Destiny, which was the best-selling game on the Playstation 4, was the fourth most-purchased title on the Playstation 3. Perfectly mirroring those statistics, Minecraft took the top spot on PS3, but only claimed the fourth entry on the PS4.

Minecraft also just missed being the highest-selling game on the PS Store for the Playstation Vita after the popular sandbox creation title came in just behind Sword Art Online once the year-long Playstation Network sales figures were tallied for the Sony handheld.

As the Inquisitr reported earlier this week, the 2014 Playstation Network charts were released just days after Sony revealed the PS Store’s December sales. Comparing the 2014 figures to last month’s top-sellers shows that many games are still performing well while other titles have entered a slump. For example, Minecraft continues to dominate the Playstation Network on the PS3, but sales of Destiny have decreased to the point where Bungie’s shooter has nearly dropped the game out of the top 20 best-selling games on the PS4.

Did you help any of the above top-performing titles climb to the top of the Playstation Network by purchasing them from the PS Store in 2014?
