Dead Newborn Found At Recycling Center: Missing Baby of Child Killer Melissa Mitin?

Unfortunately, not only has a newborn baby been found dead in a Detroit recycling center, authorities say it is not the missing baby from Lansing. Police in Roseville and Meridian Township said Friday that DNA tests performed by Michigan State Police show no link between their cases.

Melissa Mitin, twenty-five years old and of nearby Okemos, told a judge earlier this week that she “could not recall where her baby boy is.” She is also charged with the 2013 death of her infant daughter.

Investigators say the child found at the recycling center was between 1 and 3 days old and was a Caucasian male that showed no signs of trauma. Workers at the Roseville recycling center discovered the body Wednesday night, bundled in cloth among other items, that came down a sorting line.

Police say they’ve launched an investigation into the case.

Mitin of Okemos, Michigan, is awaiting trial after an incident on December 26, 2013 in which she allegedly gave birth to a daughter in the bathroom of a family friend’s home, and then immediately stuffed the crying child in a trash can.

Now, it has been revealed she gave again birth just three weeks while she was out on bail, and she will not tell authorities where they can find her newborn son, although a dead baby boy reportedly found in a nearby dumpster is reportedly not a DNA match, either.

Both parents testified they knew nothing of the pregnancy and were against premarital sex for religious reasons and had never talked about the act with their daughter, but state that their daughter says she was raped.

Mitin is a graduate student studying kinesiology at the Michigan State Univeristy, and is out on bail for the death of her daughter. Bail was set at just five thousand dollars. She lives with her parents and was still attending school, until she stopped showing up for routine obstetrical care at 35 weeks. When the doctor’s office inquired as to why, she said she had already given birth, prompting them to notify Child Protective Services. No baby was found.

Now, Mitin has had her bail in the first murder case revoked, and is undergoing tests to see if she is even psychologically competent to stand trial. It is unknown who the father of this second baby is, and the father of the first was a student who attended Michigan State University with Mitin and is now living in another country, according to Mitin’s attorney.

“I have some serious concerns about her psychological well-being,” said her attorney, Dennis Reynolds.
