One Direction Thrilled With Brit Awards Nominations After Grammy Snub

As the global awards season kicks into high gear, news has emerged that One Direction have been nominated for two prestigious awards. As every fan knows, One Direction were formed into a boy band on the 2010 reality TV show X Factor. Despite never having met before the show, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne were runners up, and since then, One Direction have developed into one of the biggest bands on the planet.

All four One Direction albums have debuted at Number 1, and their 2014 tour netted them over $250 million and was seen by over 3.4 million people. Their 80 date On The Road Again tour, which kicks off next month in Australia, looks set to be even more popular as One Direction’s popularity shows no sign of waning.

Despite One Direction’s huge and fiercely loyal fan base, the boys were snubbed for the fourth year running when the nominees for the 2015 Grammy’s were announced last month. Given their success, their omission from the Grammy’s must have disappointed the band. It certainly angered their army of fans, many of whom took to social media to voice their disgust.

Ever the diplomat, One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles played down their omission, telling Yahoo! Celebrity, “I think there’s so much incredible music out there, I don’t think you can kick off if you don’t get the nominations.”

He continued, “In the list of nominations everybody is incredible, there’s a lot of award shows that we do get nominated for and we are lucky for those things. I don’t think we can get hung up on the ones that we didn’t get.”

Of course, One Direction have a very long list of award nominations under their belts, having won Billboard Awards, American Music Awards, Brit Awards, MTV Awards, and even Guinness World Records over the past few years. They must find their omission from the Grammy’s baffling, but the announcement yesterday that they have been nominated for two Brit Awards will go some way to easing the pain.

Metro report that One Direction’s two nominations are for best British group and best British video for “You and I.” The boys are up for some stiff competition in the Best group category, with Coldplay, Royal Blood, Alt-J, and Clean Bandit nominated alongside them.

Unreality TV reported that One Direction’s Niall Horan took some time out from rehearsals for the upcoming tour to announce his delight on social media platform Twitter. Horan tweeted that he was “stoked” to be nominated.

Simon Cowell’s SyCo entertainment also took to Twitter to congratulate One Direction on their nominations.
