‘Sharknado 3’ Confirmed: Ian Ziering And Tara Reid Return, Plot Revealed

Sharknado 3 is officially being made!

Fans and critics may have thought that the franchise would come to an end after Sharknado 2. However, it has been confirmed that there will at least be one more installment released. The official announcement confirming Sharknado 3 was made at the Syfy Television Critics Association panel held on Thursday.

Sharknado stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will both be returning for the third film. Both Tara and Ian (known to Sharknado fans as April and Fin) will have leading roles in the next shark-infested adventure.

Variety reports that the plot of Sharknado 3 brings disaster and massive destruction directly to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. The shark-infested chaos will start on the streets of Washington D.C. and then spread further down the East Coast.

It has also been confirmed that the same screenwriter of the first two movies, Thunder Levin, also wrote the script for Sharknado 3. Anthony C. Ferrante also returned to direct the film.

When promoting Sharknado 2 in an interview with Hollywood Life, Ian Ziering made it clear that he wanted to keep playing Fin in many more films. The 50-year-old actor even shared his own vision about where the franchise should head next.

“Thunder Levin, the writer of the films has steered us well. I am hoping this is a seven course meal! I would like the third installment [to] be taken to foreign shores! ‘Sharkpocolypse Now’!”

Ziering also called himself the luckiest man in the world because of the success that has generated in recent years from the Sharknado franchise. As an actor, Ian was mostly known for his work in the 90s TV series Beverly Hills 90210, just like Tara Reid was mostly known for starring in the American Pie movies.

In an interview with GQ, Tara Reid opened up about how she thought that a sharknado could possibly happen in real-life, too.

“The chances of it happening are very rare, but it can happen actually. Which is crazy. Not that it – the chances of it are, like, you know, it’s like probably ‘pigs could fly’. Like, I don’t think pigs could fly, but actually sharks could be stuck in tornados. There could be a sharknado.”

The Sharknado movies have placed Ian, Tara, and Syfy overall back in the spotlight in a way that many fans and critics never thought would happen when the first movie was initially released.

Sharknado 3 is currently scheduled to premiere on Syfy in July 2015.
