Shepard Fairey arrested on graffiti charges

Shepard Fairey, the “street artist” who shot to fame last year after creating the iconic Obama Hope posters, has been arrested in Boston on graffiti charges.

Police allege that he “tagged” locations in the Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street area of Boston, and the railroad trestle by the BU Bridge.

Fairey was released on bail and faces arraignment Monday.

The news follows a bad week for Fairey, who was accused by AP of copyright infringement over his Obama poster.

  1. Bad week, or fantastic week if you're a “street artist”? His Boston exhibition is bound to be very popular, as if it wasn't going to be already.
