Zayn Malik: One Direction Fans Prove They Are The Greatest

One Direction heart-throb Zayn Malik turned 22 earlier this week, and his fans celebrated by making a huge donation in Zayn’s name to a project that is close to the singers heart.

Zayn and his One Direction band mates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, shot to stardom in 2010 when they were put together on the reality TV show X Factor. Although they didn’t win the show, they were signed to Simon Cowell’s SyCo, and have rarely been out of the limelight since.

Zayn and his pals are rarely out of the limelight, and are unquestionably one of the hardest working bands around; everywhere they go, they are met by hoards of fans and by a media desperate for any scrap of news. This week, however, it is Zayn’s fans who are in the spotlight rather than Zayn himself. New Magazine reports that some of Zayn’s fans set up a Just Giving page in Zayn’s name, and invited fellow One Direction fans to make donations in honor of Zayn’s birthday. The proceeds were to be gifted to the British Asian Trust, an organization for which Zayn Malik acts an ambassador, as does his friend Naughty Boy.

Zayn supports the organization, which was set up at the suggestion of Prince Charles in 2007, and serves as a “social fund” to support high-impact charities within the areas of education, enterprise, and health in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the UK.

Zayn’s fans set out to raise $10,000, a target already surpassed as fans proved their generosity by pledging over $11,300 to date. Hitan Mehta, Executive Director of the British Asian Trust, made a statement of gratitude on the British Asian Trust website thanking Zayn’s fans saying

“We thank One Direction fans for their generous contributions. We are honored to have Zayn Malik as part of our British Asian Trust family; he is a young man with immense talent and a dedicated following. Our celebrity ambassadors have been champions for our causes and have helped us unlock the potential of the poor and vulnerable in South Asia.”

Zayn Malik took to Twitter to thank his fans and calling their efforts amazing.

One Directions fans don’t stop there though. The Yorkshire Standard is reporting that they have already raised over £35,000 for various charities, and over £4,000 has already been raised for Harry Style’s 21st birthday on February 1.

Money from that appeal will be donated to the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard.

The efforts of Zayn Malik’s fans proves beyond doubt that not only are they loyal, they are also kind and generous.
