Report: Michele Bachmann Ending Her Campaign

The end is near for Michele Bachmann. After taking just 5% of the Iowa vote to finish sixth behind Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Perry, Bachmann is second guessing her goal to become the President of the United States.

Reuters reports that Bachmann has already made the decision and is pulling out from the 2012 presidential race. Reuters also reports that Rick Perry is “reassessing” his campaign.

Perry told the CS Monitor:

“With the voters’ decision tonight in Iowa, I decided to return to Texas, assess the results of tonight’s caucus, determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race.”

Bachmann’s campaign manager Keith Nahigian said that the congresswoman has planned a news conference later this morning to talk about the future of her campaign. Nahigian didn’t say if Bachmann would pull out from the race.

After the vote last night, Bachmann told reporters that she wouldn’t pull out of the race. Bachmann said:

“There are many more chapters to be written on the path to our party’s nomination. I believe that I am that true conservative who can and who will defeat Barack Obama in 2012… What we need is a fearless conservative, one with no compromises on their record on spending on health care on crony capitalism on defending America on standing with our ally Israel.”

The Wall Street Journal, however, reports that Bachmann has already cancelled her next campaign trip. CNN also cites several campaign sources who have said that Bachmann’s run for the White House is over.

Michele Bachmann is expected to make a formal announcement later today.
