Behemoth ‘Evolve’ Monster Revealed Along With DLC Plans For Future Characters

2K Games and Turtle Rock Studios revealed the fourth Evolve monster and complete DLC details Tuesday, with the Xbox One beta set to launch in just two days. As its name suggests, the Behemoth is the largest beast in the four-versus-one shooter yet, and it could be free for those that pre-purchase the game.

Evolve is trying to entice Xbox One owners into not just pre-ordering the game, but pre-purchasing for the Xbox One as well. As the Inquisitrreported, those that go ahead and pay in full will automatically unlock the third tier of hunters and monster in both the beta this weekend and the full release. Now, 2K Games is throwing in the Monster Expansion Pack that features the newly revealed Behemoth and the Savage Goliath skin with that pre-purchase.

If you do not pre-purchase Evolve for the Xbox One, the only other way to get the Behemoth is to purchase the Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition for $79.99, purchase the Evolve PC Monster Race Edition for $99.99 (which includes a fifth monster), or purchase the Behemoth separately for $14.99. Turtle Rock is also offering an Evolve Hunting Season Pass that features four new Hunter characters for $24.99. They can also be purchased individually for $7.49.

Note that only the hunters and monsters of Evolve will ever be DLC. Creative Director Phill Robb explained that all DLC maps will be available to players for free when they become available. More monsters and hunters are in development for Evolve as well. Additionally, just because you don’t purchase a particular Hunter or a Monster doesn’t mean you won’t go up against it.

“Even if you don’t buy them and you buddy does, that’s cool… You won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those.” In other words, you still may have to fight the Behemoth even if you don’t purchase it.

Speaking of which, the Behemoth is the largest monster that will ever appear in Evolve, according to Turtle Rock. It moves by turning into a giant boulder and rolling across the map. It can also “summon massive wall[s] of rock to block off the terrain, isolate and destroy individual hunters or shield itself from their weapons,” the developer explains.

“It hurls exploding blasts of magma at anyone foolish enough to fight it.”

The Behemoth is also slow, though — the slowest of all the monsters in the game.

Here are the complete DLC details for Evolve for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game launches on February 10. I won’t pretend to tell you how to spend your money. You can decide on whether this content is worth pre-purchasing or pre-ordering.

Xbox One Exclusive Pre-Purchase and Pre-Load

  • Players who pre-purchase Evolve digitally on Xbox One starting today can pre-load the game now through launch on February 10, 2015.
  • Starting today, players can pre-load the Evolve Xbox One Open Beta, which begins on January 15, 2015.
  • Pre-purchasing Evolve or the Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition for Xbox One grants players an exclusive instant unlock of the third Monster (Wraith) and the third tier of Hunters (Parnell, Abe, Caira, Cabot) at launch and for use during the Evolve Xbox One Open Beta.
  • Players who pre-purchase Evolve or the Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition for Xbox One will also receive the Monster Expansion Pack free*, which includes Behemoth, the fourth playable Monster, this spring, and the Savage Goliath Skin at launch.

Evolve Hunting Season Pass

  • Includes four new playable Hunter characters available this spring, one in each class: Assault, Trapper, Medic, and Support.
  • Includes three Monster skins at launch, exclusive to the Evolve Hunting Season Pass: Magma Goliath, Magma Kraken, and Magma Wraith.
  • The Evolve Hunting Season Pass contains $29.96 of content for $24.99.
  • The four playable Hunter characters will be available for purchase individually outside of the Evolve Hunting Season Pass for $7.49 each.

Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition

  • The Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition is available for pre-purchase now as a digital download for Xbox One and Windows PC, and will be available soon for PlayStation 4 system.
  • Includes Evolve main game and the Evolve Hunting Season Pass.
  • The Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition contains $89.95 of content for $79.99.
  • Players who pre-purchase Evolve or the Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition will also receive the Monster Expansion Pack free, which includes Behemoth, the fourth playable Monster character, this spring, and the Savage Goliath Skin at launch.

Evolve PC Monster Race Edition
