‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Jeremy Leaving, Damon and Elena ‘Happy,’ And ‘A Lot Of Drama And Death’

There’s some good news and there’s some bad news out there right now for The Vampire Diaries fans. It sounds like there are good times ahead for one couple, but another character is leaving. Plus, “a lot of drama and death” is coming. In other words, what else would you expect from the CW drama?

As the Inquisitr previously reported, when The Vampire Diaries returns from its winter hiatus, Kai has Elena, and he thinks she’s the way for him to get his revenge on Damon. Watch the promo for the show’s return below to get a tease of what he’s going to be doing to her.

When Kai took Elena, she was on her way to see Damon, as they still have issues to work through, especially since she doesn’t remember their relationship. However, based on what the Hollywood Reporter has shared from co-creator Julie Plec about Damon and Elena’s future, there are happy times coming.

“We have Damon and Elena finally working their way toward each other, and trying to reach a happy state of a functioning relationship, which is the one thing we never got to play with them – seeing them be comfortable and happy with each other without dealing with a lot of internal conflict.”

Ian Somerhalder pointed out that Damon and Elena’s “honeymoon phase” was never seen on screen, since it took place between seasons on The Vampire Diaries.

“Listen, you don’t typically get to see Damon in a space and time where he’s happy… and also, too, you don’t really get to see Elena very happy. Though she tries, with varying degrees of success… I think it’s wonderful to see these two people happy…. How long it will last, considering the drama will always ensue [remains to be seen]. But they’re very deserving of it. I think it’s a time when they’ve been through a lot, and… love trumps all.”

While the CW series was just renewed for a seventh season, Plec has revealed that she and Kevin Williamson have discussed the show’s end. Will that be what’s seen in the series finale, whenever that may be?

“[‘The Vampire Diaries’ co-creator] Kevin [Williamson] and I came up with and cried over our perfect ending… and really stuck to that for many, many years. And now the show will go on longer than we ever dreamed of. So it’s evolved, but it’s still rooted in that same idea. We’re still on the same path.”

As for what’s coming up for the other characters, executive producer Caroline Dries has previewed that the storyline with the Gemini coven is going to reach a climax – and it doesn’t sound like one that will end well for everyone. Jo has agreed to the merge, but she is going into it trying to win. Because of that, Kai is still alive and hasn’t gotten a bullet to the head or killed in another way, but will they end up regretting that decision?

“Our main throughline this season has been learning more about the Gemini Coven. …Kai has now absorbed all the magic in Mystic Falls, and he’s super powerful, and he has one thing in mind: I want to merge with my twin sister, and become the leader of the Gemini Coven. And so we’ll watch that story culminate with a lot of drama and death.”

Looking ahead, E! News has revealed that Steven R. McQueen is leaving The Vampire Diaries in Episode 14, but Plec has promised that he’s not dying; instead, Jeremy is heading to art school. Sometimes it’s time for a character to move on, and that’s the case here. In fact, it is possible that others will be leaving too.

“I wouldn’t dare kill Jeremy; I think that would be all forms of cruelty. But I do think that he’s a man now, he’s not a little kid anymore and he’s got to live his life. It’s time for him to get started doing that.”

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 returns with new episodes Thursday, January 22, at 8 p.m. on the CW.
