’16 and Pregnant’ Confirmed By MTV: Taking On ‘Teen Mom’ Format

16 and Pregnant is MTV’s hit show, which chronicles the lives of young teenage mothers-to-be. The show made its debut in 2009 and showed the stories of six different girls. Since its debut, the show has had three Teen Mom spin-off’s and the 16 and Pregnant seasons have featured at least a dozen girls a season, with the second season of the show being broken off into two separate parts, A and B.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, MTV released a casting call for the sixth season of 16 and Pregnant on their website, alerting fans to the fact that the show would not be canceled as once thought. It was also revealed by the Inquisitr that MTV may be planning a Teen Mom 4 with cast members from the most recent season of the show. While the spin-off has not been confirmed, MTV confirmed to The TV Page that they are preparing for a sixth season and that the show will have an all-new format. Susanne Boss, the programming boss at MTV, confirmed the news to the site.

“We decided to try something new. 16 and Pregnant was stand alone episodes [in the past] and we are going to use the Teen Mom format for 16 and Pregnant this season.”

What this means exactly is that rather than introducing a dozen girls and showing their stories from pregnancy to birth in one hour, MTV will instead choose four girls to introduce for the new season. This means that rather than meeting a new girl each week and learning everything about her, viewers will need to tune in each week to watch how the stories of the four girls progress.

Daniels talked about the cons of going with a new format, but she also outlines the pros of the upcoming format change.

“We find that the Teen Mom ratings build over the course of the season as people get invested, so we thought, ‘Lets [sic] just look at that with 16 and Pregnant and see how it goes.'”

There is no doubt that Teen Mom has been a hit with fans. After four seasons, the original show was canceled following cast member Amber Portwood being sentenced to prison. However, now that Amber is out and living her life, the show will be back for a fifth season with the original cast, minus Farrah Abraham.

The Teen Mom 2 spin-off has also done extremely well and will soon be returning for a sixth season of the show. Corey Simms father, Jeff Simms, seemingly confirmed the return of the show on Twitter Saturday night.

It is unclear when the new season of 16 and Pregnant will premiere, but given the new format, fans will likely be excited to see how things play out.
