Bill De Blasio Hasn’t Smoked Pot Since He Was At NYU

While it’s not the first time Bill de Blasio has been asked whether or not he’s ever smoked pot, a recent inquiry from a reporter at an unrelated conference was the first time he’d ever been asked whether he’s smoked weed at Gracie Mansion with his wife, Chirlane McCray, who he met after college. As usual, the 109th mayor of New York City indicated that he has not smoked marijuana since his days in college at New York University.

“No. I haven’t smoked marijuana since I was at NYU,” de Blasio said at a conference in Brooklyn, New York Observer reported.

The 53-year-old NYC native assumed office January 1, 2014 and has since managed to be denounced by the NYPD, as reported previously here on Inquisitr. He ran for mayor promising to bring an end to stop and frisk while nurturing the strained relation between New Yorkers of color and the police. Whether these relations are more or less strained under his reign as mayor of NYC is debatable, however, de Blasio along with Police Commissioner Bill Bratton have managed to change the NYPD’s policy of arresting people for possession of small amounts of marijuana. The new policy opts to issue summonses to those caught in possession of small amounts of pot.

When asked whether he “smoked pot” by journalist Mike Allen at a Politico breakfast in Washington, the mayor told him that he had not and continued saying, “I don’t think so. I think this job is truly 24/7, and you have to be alert at all times. Was that gently said?”

The mayor, who sported an Afro and shaggy beard in college, according to a report by the NY Observer, won’t kill a groundhog this year. While the groundhog might see his shadow on February 2, 2015, he won’t see Mayor Bill de Blasio after a groundhog squirmed and broke free from his grasp and fell after a ceremony in which the creature predicted six more weeks of winter. The fall, which was several feet to the ground, has seemingly resulted in the State Island Zoo making a change to their Groundhog Day ceremony which prevents the mayor from handling the animal, the New York Post reported.

An autopsy of the groundhog revealed that the animal had suffered internal injuries, – however, it was not clear whether the injuries came as a result of the fall. Regardless, the animal died a week after the fall, which was several feet from the mayor’s hands to the ground.

Would you smoke weed with the mayor of NYC, Bill de Blasio?
