The NFL Playoffs move into the all-important divisional round this weekend, and you can watch the Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots live online, as NBC Sports Live Extra carries streaming video of what is sure to be a bruising contest between two bitter rivals Saturday afternoon.
With a spot on the AFC Conference Championship game on the line — against the winner of Sunday’s Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts matchup — Saturday’s game will mark the fourth time the Ravens have traveled to Foxboro for a playoff showdown with the Patriots.
Since Coach Bill Belichick took over the Patriots in 2000, and Tom Brady became the team’s starting quarterback in 2001, the Ravens and Patriots have faced no other teams in the playoffs more often than they will have faced each other.
Despite playing on the road for all three previous playoff matchups, Baltimore has had the better of those contests, beating the Patriots twice, first in the 2009 Wild Card round, then again in 2012 when the Ravens rolled past New England 28-13 in the AFC Championship game.
The Ravens went on to win their second Super Bowl that year.
The one year that the Patriots came out on top, in the 2011 conference championship, they squeaked by 23-20 when Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff somehow missed a 32-yard field goal as time ran out.
But Brady believes that none of those past results have any bearing on Saturday’s game.
“We can never change anything that’s happened in the past, nor can they. You can’t bring players out of retirement, they can’t either,” Brady said Monday in his regular weekly interview on WEEI radio in Boston. “It’s the guys we’ve got versus the guys they’ve got, which that’s an entirely new team that we have and an entirely new team that they have. There’s some carryover, there’s some characteristics that are the same, but these teams have established their own identities.”
This time, the Patriots will feature a healthy Rob Gronkowski at tight end, one of the most formidable offensive weapons in the NFL. “Gronk” was injured for the 2012 game. On defense, the Patriots now feature shut-down cornerback Darrell Revis, who was still a New York Jet the last time the Patriots played Baltimore in the playoffs.
Las Vegas oddsmakers have set New England as the favorite by a single touchdown.
