WWE Changing WrestleMania 31 Main-Event Plans As New Royal Rumble Favorite Emerges

Who will win the 2015 Royal Rumble? That’s by far the biggest question among WWE fans right now. For several months, almost every WWE fan has assumed that Roman Reigns would be the man to win the Royal Rumble; however, there are concerns within WWE about Reigns being ready for a true main-event push, and due to those concerns, WWE could hold Reigns’ big push off until this summer.

With Daniel Bryan announcing that he will be participating in the 2015 Royal Rumble match, it’s unlikely that WWE fans will accept any other babyface winning the match. So, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has speculated that WWE may have a top heel win the match by eliminating Daniel Bryan at the very end.

Back at WWE’s Tribute to the Troops, Daniel Bryan confronted Rusev and challenged him. At the time, it wasn’t announced that Daniel Bryan would be an active member of the WWE roster any time soon; however, at that time WWE did know that Bryan was going to return in the Royal Rumble match.

Rusev, who is currently the unbeaten United States champion, could be heading to the main-event of WrestleMania 31 to take on John Cena for the WWE championship. WWE has wanted to do a Rusev vs. John Cena program for some time now, and WrestleMania 31 would be the perfect place for the feud to culminate. It’s doubtful that the match between Rusev and Cena would be the actual main-event of the show if WWE is planning on having Rusev win the title, as they like to end WrestleMania with a feel-good moment. So, another big match could possibly be the main-event instead, and that match could possibly be Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar, with Bryan winning by submission.

Among active performers, Rusev is the number two heel in WWE behind Seth Rollins, and now that Seth Rollins will be involved in the WWE championship match at the Royal Rumble, he will not be in the Rumble match itself, which leaves Rusev as the top heel in the match. WWE’s goal is to make Rusev the most hated man in the company, and if he eliminates Daniel Bryan, that could make him just that.

In regards to WWE holding off Roman Reigns’ big push until this summer, well, Reigns could very well be the man to finally defeat Rusev at this August’s SummerSlam, which would be WWE’s way of launching Reigns as their new top star, and will give him plenty of time to improve beforehand.

Also, there are rumblings that WWE would love for Brock Lesnar to lose by submission before he exits WWE and returns to the UFC, and Daniel Bryan has said that Lesnar is the one guy he would love to work with, so it seems like a perfect match for this spring’s WrestleMania 31.
