WWE News: Seth Rollins Set To Win WWE World Heavyweight Title At Royal Rumble PPV?

WWE Superstar Seth Rollins has been on the rise for some time. Once he split from the Shield and joined the Authority, it was uncertain where he would go. We all knew he had talent, but how far WWE would allow him to go was up in the air. We all assumed that out of all the members of the Shield, Rollins would need the most help as a singles performer.

Dean Ambrose had mic and wrestling ability that was top-star worthy. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns had the look WWE wanted in a top star and star ability as well. Rollins lacked mic greatness coming in, despite his clear wrestling talent. He also lacks an amazing size, which put him in the same realm of people like Curt Hennig. Hennig was always an amazing performer in the ring and not a bad mic guy, but he was never a top star in WWE.

The same was thought for Rollins, until he won Money in the Bank. Holding this gold case was literally like finding the gold ticket to the chocolate factory. It was a shot that he was guaranteed, regardless of how he was booked the entire year. However, WWE booked him perfectly. In this time, Rollins has become a star.

Not only has he shown the ability to make a character work, but he has proven that he doesn’t need to wrestle or take big spots for you to like him. He is an entertaining mic worker now, which allows him to be a good part of the show with his voice alone. His character is worthy of the main event, which is a big deal.

Rollins, MITB

This is why WWE realized it could be a good concept to put Rollins into WrestleMania consideration. For the last few months, WWE planned to put Rollins in a big match, according to sources. The problem was, no one knew what it was. The Inquisitr reported off and on that WWE planned for Rollins to potentially cash in his Money in the Bank opportunity on the winner of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble PPV.

This was because WWE was considering plans of not having Lesnar go into WrestleMania 31 as champion, and if they were going to take the title off of him and keep him strong enough to be a big part of WrestleMania, he’d need to lose by a cash-in or something that would make sense. Now, it appears WWE is setting up for a loss that does not concern Lesnar getting pinned. Rather, Cena would be.

A few ideas have been thrown out. WWE wants to get the MITB case off of Rollins soon. So John Cena could beat Lesnar or Rollins and then Rollins would cash-in immediately after a potential attack on Cena. That would not allow Lesnar to get a rematch, due to Cena taking the title and getting cashed in on.

Rollins RAW

This seems to be the popular thought among many. Many behind the scenes feel it is a pretty big certainty that Rollins will walk out champion. If he does not, he will not have his MITB case. WWE could always have Rollins fail to cash-in, which would make it easier for whoever wins the championship at WrestleMania, as WWE would not be forced to throw Rollins into a match for the title within two months of the new champion’s reign.

WWE is still heavily considering having Roman Reigns win the Royal Rumble match. However, many think that WWE will tip their hand on what they plan to do by how they schedule the show. If the Rumble goes on last, we are almost guaranteed to see Reigns win the Rumble match. If the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match goes on last, we can expect Rollins to walk out with the title.

Many speculate since the match is already going to be big, it will close the show. So take that for what it is worth.

A lot of people were downing the idea of seeing Lesnar/Cena again for the third time in a row. This was old in the eyes of fans, and WWE throwing Rollins in was also a way of enticing fans to care about the match. There is a lot of speculation about what WWE will do at the Rumble, but we can be certain that the World Title match will help us see what WWE is planning for the WrestleMania 31 card.
