Kanye West Is Going To Give Paul McCartney ‘A Career,’ Says Fan

On January 1, Kanye West surprised everyone when he released his new song “Only One,” featuring none other than Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles fame. And while most of the world was pleasantly surprised by the results of such an unlikely collaboration, it seems a lot of people have failed to recognize what the fuss is all about. The only thing more shocking than Kanye dropping a track featuring Paul McCartney is the fact that a lot of Kanye’s fans don’t know who Paul McCartney even is.

Fans took to Twitter to talk about the song and about Paul McCartney.

Some Twitter users praised Kanye for discovering “unknown talent” and shining the spotlight on “this Paul McCartney.” Of course, it should be noted that a lot of these tweets were made in jest, but the fact of the matter is that some of Kanye’s fans (especially the younger ones) don’t really know who Sir Paul is. And this basically ruffled some feathers and pretty much pointed to a generation gap between Kanye fans and McCartney fans.

And while Kanye has yet to comment on the matter, Paul McCartney is taking it all in stride.

“Only One” is a ballad that West wrote for his daughter, his wife, as well as his mother. The song features a sparse arrangement with only McCartney’s piano accompanying West’s auto-tuned vocals. It’s a far cry from the abrasive hip-hop of West’s critically-acclaimed album, Yeezus, but at the same time feels like a logical progression for the artist/provocateur.

In an article for Junkee, James McCann wrote: “The new single is universal in theme and personal in content; it’s about his love for his wife and daughter, how me grieves for his mother, and the importance of believing in yourself. Additionally, it’s a ballad with a soaring melodic line — the sort of thing that could quite easily be found on an Adele record.”

In an interview with Billboard magazine, rapper Ty Dolla $ign revealed that he also worked with West on the new record and that more collaborations will be coming out in the near future. One of these collaborations includes a single that features Ty Dolla $ign, Paul McCartney, and Rihanna.
