Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United Transfer: Red Devils To Test Real Madrid Resolve With Huge Summer Bid

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again been linked with a move to Manchester United, and reports have even suggested that the Red Devils are prepared to test the resolve of Real Madrid by making a huge bid for the player in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo previously played at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009. Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal believes that the adulation the Portuguese forward has for the English soccer side could be enough to convince him to return to the club.

According to the Express, Manchester United are set to spend another $300 million on players in the summer. This comes after they spent just under that same amount on the likes of Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, and Daley Blind last summer.

Manchester United have allegedly already earmarked the players they want. Alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, United are also hopeful of acquiring Juventus’ Arturo Vidal, and German players Mats Hummels and Benedikt Howedes.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move back to Manchester United on numerous occasions over the last few months.

In fact, Angel Di Maria, who was bought by Manchester United from Real Madrid for $100 million in the summer, previously revealed during an interview with Inside United magazine (via Bleacher Report) that Cristiano Ronaldo was the man who convinced him to make the transfer to England.

“Before we knew I was coming to Manchester for sure, he (Ronaldo) told me it was a massive club and that I would be very happy here and it would be good for me. At that time, we didn’t know for sure that I was coming or not, so we didn’t go into great detail, but what he did say helped me greatly to make my decision.”

Ronaldo and Di Maria played alongside each other in Madrid for several seasons, and there were even rumors that his departure led Ronaldo to consider his own future in the Spanish capital.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made no secret of his love for Manchester United, even since he left the northern English side for the Bernabeu.

This led to Sky Sports’ Guillem Balgue reporting back in September that Ronaldo repeatedly “dreams” of playing in the red of Manchester United once again. He then exacerbated rumors that Ronaldo could end up back at Old Trafford by saying that United have “everything in place” for such a transfer to occur.

Whether that will actually take place is still very much up for debate. Ronaldo’s goal-scoring form has been truly remarkable this season — in just 15 games he has scored 26 goals — and while Real Madrid would be truly insane to get rid of such a hugely talented player, Ronaldo might try to dictate a transfer by requesting a move. Especially if Manchester United make a bid for him.
