What Can We Expect From ‘Pitch Perfect 2’?

The original Pitch Perfect featured main character Beca, played by Anna Kendrick, starting her freshman year in college. She was a musical loner forced into socializing by her father. As a result, an a cappella group finds her and she is brought into a world she might not have chosen for herself, but seems to fit her anyway.

In Pitch Perfect 2 Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods, Cake) reprises her role as Beca, but she’s not the only one returning.

Others returning to Pitch Perfect 2 include Rebel Wilson (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Struck By Lightning), Alexis Knapp (Ground Floor, So Undercover), Brittany Snow (Hairspray, John Tucker Must Die), Skylar Astin (Ground Floor, 21 & Over), Anna Camp (The Help, True Blood), Adam DeVine (Workaholics, Modern Family) and, of course, Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, 30 Rock).

Banks almost wasn’t even in the first Pitch Perfect. Kristen Wiig (The Skeleton Twins, Bridesmaids) was offered the part of Gail initially. Luckily, the switch was made. Now Banks will be making her full-length feature film directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2.

Normally, it’s easy to expect less from a first time director, but Banks has 68 acting credits on her resume and three other producer credits, including the first Pitch Perfect. Her chances of success are significantly higher than someone new to the business.

New actors joining the old Pitch Perfect team include Hailee Steinfeld (3 Days to Kill, Ender’s Game) and Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, 8 Simple Rules). Playing a mother-daughter duo in the sequel, the actresses are sure to impress fans.

Along with another riff off and bigger, more involved musical numbers, Rebel Wilson revealed to EW that there will be more physicality to her part.

“I’ve been training with this coach from Cirque du Soleil for the opening sequence. It is a little bit, inspired by Pink’s performance, and it is extremely difficult. They couldn’t get a stunt double my size to do it. So they said, ‘Let’s just make Rebel do it. Is she afraid of heights? Yes? Let’s just put her up there. That should be hilarious.'”

It looks like the plot of Pitch Perfect 2 will bring the Barden Bellas to a world-wide competition.

Elizabeth Banks explained, “They are prohibited—and I won’t say why—from competing at the collegiate level. So they are sort of forced to enter a professional world competition in order to be reinstated.”

Everything else about Pitch Perfect 2 is being kept as secret as possible. However, if things go well for the sequel, there are talks that Universal will be considering a Pitch Perfect 3.
