MySpace sex offenders migrating to Facebook

Some of the 90,000 sex offenders banned from MySpace have headed to Facebook, according to an expert.

Internet security firm Sentinel have found over 8,000 known sex offenders on Facebook, and believe the true number could be as high as 100,000.

John Cardillo from Sentinel told The Sun: “We’ve identified and removed 90,000 sex offenders from MySpace, but Facebook could still be a haven for such people. We found 8,487 registered sex offenders on Facebook in just a few days by doing a basic search that any user can access. So that’s a small percentage of what is there.”

“If you look at the size of its community, there could be as many as 100,000 sex offenders or pedophiles on Facebook.”

A Facebook spokesman told the paper that they believe the numbers are an exaggeration, but had removed 4,600 accounts based on data provided to them by Sentinel.
