‘Halo 5’ Multiplayer Beta Adds New Maps, Modes, And Weapons Via Xbox One Update

The Halo 5: Guardians beta was updated Friday with new maps and modes for Xbox One players to try out. There’s also some new weapons that have arrived as well, including the return of a Halo 4 Forerunner weapon that points to that ancient races return for the sequel.

The “Truth” and “Empire” maps are being rotated out of the Halo 5 multiplayer beta’s Slayer gametype to make way for “Regret” and “Eden,” two remix maps. Players can expect to start with the Battle Rifle. Additionally, the power weapon for “Regret” is the new Hydra homing missile launcher.

The new gametype being introduced in the second week of the Halo 5 beta is called “Breakout.” It’s a Slayer spin-off that limits each player to only a single life for each of the match’s five rounds. The first team to take out the entire opposing team wins the round. The team that reaches three round wins first, wins the match.

“Breakout” also introduces the “Crossfire” and “Trench” maps. Both are all new maps that have not previously been seen in any Halo title and were designed specifically for this gametype. Additionally, players will start this mode with SMG featuring that have been given extra killing power compared to other gametypes.

343 Industries is also slipping in the Light Rifle, according to Multiplayer Designer Quinn Del Hoyo. As I mentioned in my preview of the Halo 5 beta, the Assault Rifle and SMG are now viable alternatives. That doesn’t appear to be the case with the Forerunner cross between a Battle Rifle and a DMR appears to have actually been downgraded.

This does confirm that the Forerunners will return in Halo 5. 343 Industries previously stated that the abilities in multiplayer like Sprint, Thruster, and Ground Pound mirror what is available in the campaign. That’s the case for the weapons as well.
