Together, Sharon Osbourne and Kim Kardashian have lost about 100 pounds. Both have used social media to credit the Atkins low-carb diet for their weight loss success. And now Osbourne is teaming up with the company for a 2015 campaign about the newest version of the Atkins plan, reported MediaPost.
Called Atkins 40, the revamped weight loss program is still a low-carb diet. However, the original Atkins diet began with an induction phase that restricted dieters to healthy fats, protein, and non-starchy vegetables. Now they can nosh on a variety of different foods from the initial phase.
Thus far, Sharon has lost several dress sizes as well as shedding 30 pounds, according to the Examiner. She emphasized that she chose the low-carb diet for her health as well as weight loss.
“My goal in partnering with Atkins is to get healthy and of course to feel better,” said the 62-year-old.
Osbourne also has discussed her weight loss on TV talk shows such as The Doctors, below.
For Kim Kardashian, the decision to go with the high-fat low-carb Atkins diet was more challenging. But once she realized that her post-pregnancy pounds weren’t coming off as fast as she desired, Kardashian chose the ketogenic diet combined with a tough fitness program, as the Inquisitr reported.
Kim lost an estimated 70 pounds total, opening up first about her weight loss with Jay Leno, shown below.
So what’s the Atkins diet like, and how does it work? As the Inquisitr reported, the high-fat low-carb diet is designed to put the body into nutritional ketosis to boost fat-burning.
The program involves generous amounts of fat, moderate amounts of protein, and limited carbohydrates in the form of non-starchy vegetables.
And Kardashian isn’t the only celebrity to choose the Atkins diet for her post-pregnancy weight loss. Kendra Wilkinson also went low-carb, as the Inquisitr revealed.
I researched the perfect diet for after baby… I love meat, I love vegetables, it’s low-carb… it’s working so good… You have to go on a diet and really take care of your body.
“Atkins is not a 1,200-calorie diet that leaves you hungry,” Atkins nutrition director Colette Heimowitz told OK magazine.
“People have reported losing up to 10 pounds in two weeks. Some could lose up to 14 pounds in two weeks.”
Prior to her wedding, Kardashian was extra-strict with following the low-carb diet guidelines.
“She doesn’t really drink, but she likes a glass of red wine with dinner and coffee in the morning, but her Atkins mania won’t allow her those anymore. She won’t even have a sip.”
A sample breakfast features eggs, while lunch might include grilled salmon and a mixed salad with sugar-free, creamy dressing. Dinner emphasizes protein such as chicken with non-starchy vegetables.
For snacks, Kim enjoys sliced turkey and some veggies such as cucumber or celery.
