Oil Pulling The Face: Why People Are Using The Oil Cleansing Method To Clean Their Faces In Popular ‘OCM’ Routine

According to the Google AdWords Keyword Planner, the term “oil cleansing method” gets approximately 12,000 searches per month, with related search terms like “OCM” and “oil face wash” and “oil cleansing” adding on thousands more monthly searches to that number. The amazing trend of “oil pulling” — swishing coconut oil around in the mouth and spitting it out to extract impurities — gets a whopping 246,000 searches per month.

However, outside of “oil pulling” for the mouth, another trend gaining buzz is the OCM or “oil cleansing method,” which has been described as oil pulling for the face. Indeed, websites like the Huffington Post have recently asked, “What The Heck Is Cleansing Oil, And Why Is Everyone Obsessed With It?

A search for “oil cleansing method” on YouTube turns up a good amount of videos, with thousands of views from viewers seeking more information about how to use oil to clean their faces and help address acne problems.

This reporter learned about the oil cleansing method recently when a woman told me about her love of using grape seed oil as the best massage lubricant ever — so much so that it’s the only oil both her and her husband prefer to use during their bedroom time. After that conversation, I diligently tromped off to my local Mustard Seed Market and Café, sniffed around their lovely essential oils aisle and bought my own bottle of grape seed oil. While in TJ Maxx days later, I ended up directly in front of a bottle of 100% pure grape seed oil and I took it as a sign to buy another bottle to keep in my purse.

Beyond being a great personal lubricant, grape seed oil is also a great oil to use in the oil cleansing method. Thank heaven I decided to start rubbing the grape seed oil on my face in a bit of divine inspiration, and after loving the skin softening effects of cleaning my face only with oil — and eschewing those harsh acne wash creams loaded with harsh chemicals that I previously used in attempts to get rid of pimples and scars — I searched online and found out that the oil cleansing method was actually a process people were using to pull oil out of their skin by using oil.

Various users use different mixes of oils in their oil cleansing methods, discovering whether grape seed oil, castor oil, almond oil, or other oils are best for their skin. Grape seed oil has worked wonders for this journalist, and the oil cleansing method even helps makeup go on smoother, so when I try the latest contouring makeup trend, as reported by the Inquisitr, I expect that to look even lovelier, even though I’ve used less foundation lately because my skin looks better. I still love foundation for SPF protection and evening out my skin tone, but am loving the oil cleaning method even more for the softness it brings to my skin that makes me love to touch my own face.
