Camden County Police Officers Form Human Net To Rescue Mom, Two Kids Jumping Out Of Burning Home

Officers from Camden County Police Department in New Jersey are being hailed for their heroic efforts after they formed a human net in order to rescue three people from a raging inferno. According to CBS Local, the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. The report adds that two Camden County police officers were first notified about a fire at around 4:15 p.m by local residents.

The two officers, later identified as Sean McMahon and Aaron Roselli, headed straight towards the location and were confronted by a fire that had engulfed the lower floors of the home. They later figured out that a mother and her two children, aged four and seven, were trapped on the second floor of the house. In an attempt to rescue the trio, the two police officers attempted to enter the home by kicking the front door open. They were joined in by two other officers, Nicholas Marchiafava and Shane Franz. Upon entering the structure, the officers however realized that the fire was simply too large and it had become impossible for them to get to the second floor. Officer Marchiafava, in his attempt to reach the upper floor, put himself in grave danger and collapsed while navigating through the smoke. He was quickly helped by his fellow officers and was taken to the Cooper University Hospital where he was treated and later released.

With the first rescue attempt proving to be an nonviable idea, the officers decided upon a second plan. They called out to the terrified family trapped on the second floor of the home and asked them to do something really audacious. The officers wanted them to jump out of a second floor window. According to NJ.com, a group of Camden County officers including Frank Cardosa, Joseph Czyzewski, Antonio Genneta, Brandon Moreno, Thomas Rambone, Nicholas Sherman, and Robert Schwartz stood right beneath the second floor window and locked their arms to form a human net. They called out to the family and encouraged them to jump. The mother and the two kids eventually jumped and were quickly taken to the Cooper University Hospital. The trio were eventually shifted to the Crozer-Chester Medical center, where their condition remains critical.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by Camden County Chief J. Scott Thomson, he reiterated how proud he was with the way his officers conducted themselves.

“I’m extremely proud of the heroic actions taken by officers who responded to this fire. They risked their lives without hesitation to make sure that the children and their mother got out and because of their actions, this family is alive today.”

According to police, the fire reportedly originated from the family’s Christmas tree. They have confirmed that there were no other people inside the home at the time of the fire.
