January 2015 arrives with a bang and then quick silence after the New Year’s Eve partying, the family traditions, gift-giving, paper-tearing, and bad holiday sweaters. For many, it sweeps in with doomed determination for positive change and a sudden return to harsh reality.

With all the holiday decorations put away and seemingly not much to look forward to, winter can seem pretty bleak in January. According to ABC News, therapists, counselors, and social workers claim more people look for help to beat depression in January than people do in December.

It can be helpful to tackle one day at a time when you are overwhelmed with what seems like a long stretch of too much reality ahead. Take some time out in January to celebrate some silliness to break up the monotony of winter.

For example, if you haven’t had enough alcohol on New Year’s Eve, January 1, 2015 also happens to be Bloody Mary day. Hair of the dog, anyone?

Personally, my favorite day is January 3, 2015, the Festival of Sleep Day. We all could use a little extra sleep, so take it where you can get it.

If you’re a pet parent, why not embarrass or insult your furry baby by dressing it up on National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14? After all, it has been awhile since you’ve posted any pictures of Scruffy on Instagram.

January 17 is a day you can embrace without any guilt. It is known as National Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day, so you can have that bag of chips, get another tattoo, or do whatever you were determined to do or not do but now dread doing or not doing.

Hugging Day is on January 21, so now you have an excuse to invade someone’s personal space for a very brief moment in time. Well, maybe not. Actually, make sure you have permission first.

National Opposite Day is on January 25, and the whole family can get involved in some real crazy silliness for all or at least part of this fun day.

January 28, 2015 is Fun at Work Day, so get your co-workers prepared for some shenanigans that won’t get any of you fired, hurt, or arrested.

The Fayette Tribune lists some more January 2015 themes and foods to celebrate, so you will always have something to look forward to when reality hits and you need to escape to a happier place.
