Ferguson Police Officers Face Gunfire Amid Burglary Arrests, Were They Targeted?

Unfortunately for officers, the fury in Ferguson doesn’t seem to over just yet.

On Tuesday, December 30, Ferguson police officers responded to a call about a burglary at a beauty supply store that had been closed following the protests and riots centered around the grand jury decision for the Michael Brown shooting.

According to KSDK, the officers arrived to find six people, who they decided to take into custody. However, the arrest took a sudden turn when shots were fired at the officers. NBC News reports the first round of shots reportedly came from an apartment complex behind the store. Then, more shots were fired from the opposite side of the street.

Although local authorities have stated that the gunfire seemed sporadic as opposed to a planned attack, many people have questioned the situation via social media. Some feel the officers were targeted due to where the gunshots reportedly came from. Others argued that even if the shooting wasn’t planned, the problems for police officers will continue to mount, and more shooting attempts will unfortunately take place.

Due to the heightened number of threats against police officers, unfortunately, it isn’t outlandish to think the officers could have been targeted. The “kill more cops” mantra has been heard more often than not over the past few weeks. So, of course, many social media users questioned whether or not the officers were set up.

The burglary suspects were arrested and taken into custody. Luckily, no one was injured. Unfortunately, the shooting suspects were not found.
