New Years Eve Party: AAA’s ‘Tipsy Tow’ Offers Free Safe Ride Home NYE; California Designated Driver App Gets Free Food

On New Years Eve, police officers are out in force to patrol for individuals that have chosen to drive after having just a little too much partying. For those who need a safe ride home, AAA is again offering to provide transportation home for people under the influence of drugs or alcohol as part of its holiday safe ride program. While California is promoting a designated driver app, DDVIP, that maps out bars and clubs that give sober drivers special perks.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, predictions for the end of the world in 2015 conspiracy theories include Nostradamus prophecies and a Mayan calendar redux. Also, find a commercial free live feed of the Times Square ball drop online.

Law enforcement departments across the nation have announced their typical DUI enforcement for Christmas and New Years in hopes of bringing down the number of injuries and deaths on the road.

While AAA’s program isn’t nationwide, several AAA clubs across the country are participating in tipsy tow: Truckers will take your vehicle — and you — home. The program was developed to combat the statistic that about 40 percent of accidents on Christmas and New Year’s Eve are the result of drinking and driving, USA Today reported last year.

The app, called DDVIP, offers exclusive offers and discounts to sober designated drivers throughout participating restaurants and bars in California.

The app can be downloaded on both Android and iPhones. Click the gallery above for a quick walk-through of the app and visit DDVIP’s website to download it.

AAA recommends you designate a driver before going out, but above all the company wants you and others to stay safe this winter. Call 1-800-AAA-Help (or 1-800-222-4357) in one of these areas to be helped home. Below is a map of AAA clubs offering the program for Christmas and New Years, followed by a listing participating areas.
