Police Officer Suffers Highway Robbery In Texas
In a harsh reminder that not even off-duty police officers are immune to the predators prowling American cities and highways, not even during the Holiday Season, an off-duty Galena Park, Texas, police officer found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time in what should have been a time of celebration and merriment, reports KHOU.
While some news outlets are reporting the Galena Park officer was accompanied by his girlfriend, others report that the woman with the Galena Park officer was his wife.
Instead the Galena Park officer and his wife ended up targets of highway robbery when two cars full of thugs executed a devious, preordained plan designed to stymie the couple’s car so that they could have their way and steal their things.
The Galena Park Police officer, who serves his community as a member of the Galena Park Police Department in Texas, was driving along as an innocent, off-duty civilian, enjoying the wonders and joy that this time of year has to offer. Sharing this time with his wife by his side in the passenger seat. The two were on their way home from a Christmas party when what to their wondering eyes should appear but a sudden rogue vehicle cutting into their lane.
The car cutting off the Galena Park officer and his wife was reportedly a black Infiniti. The black Infiniti with, what turned out to be evil intentions, didn’t just cut in front of the officer and his wife, but actually caused the two to collide, resulting in a significant car accident.
Following the collision, the Galena Park officer got out of his personal vehicle to survey the situation and ascertain what had just happened between he and the black Infiniti. That’s when a red Humvee pulled up to the scene, apparently part of the highway robbery crash and grab robbery scheme, four Hispanic males jumping out of the red Humvee and attacking the unsuspecting Galena Park officer and his wife.
According to police, the highway robbing thugs were able to steal the Galena Park officer’s cell phone and wallet while also injuring the couple during the attack.
The Galena Park officer’s gun was also stolen after falling to the ground during the struggle, at which time it fired but didn’t hit anybody.
The Galena Park officer and his significant other were both reportedly admitted to a hospital where they are both recovering.
Police, meanwhile, are searching for the attacking suspects. They say the attackers stole the Galena Park officer’s gun and took off in the red Humvee. The resulting pursuit by other officers resulted in pulling the suspects over, but they ditched the red Humvee and escaped into the woods for the time being.
